The Market

At present, more multinational corporations are including African countries in their emerging market country’s portfolios and diversifying their businesses. However, Scandinavia is currently outnumbered compared to its American, Asian, and larger European counterparts in establishing a strong presence in the region. Many small, medium, and large companies in Scandinavia are not taking advantage of the vast opportunities in West Africa due to misconceptions and lack of information about the processes necessary to successfully conduct business in the region. West Africa is an attractive target region due to continued economic growth.

As these markets continue to grow, there is a rising need to diversify from the primary industry to the secondary and to tertiary industry sectors (i.e. in finance, energy, green technology, seafood, and medical/biotechnology). The widening of the West African tertiary industry provides a wealth of opportunities and pathways for Scandinavian companies to enter the region. Efforts are currently been made by the Norwegian government to improve and increase the trade relationship between Nigeria, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. At present, Nigeria is Norway's biggest trading partner on the African continent.
